Your Routine Hearing Benefits

As a Braven Medicare Choice (PPO) or Braven Medicare Freedom (PPO) member, you can take care of your hearing with a regular yearly appointment and hearing aids, if you need them. Your benefits include:

  • A routine hearing exam
  • A fitting and evaluation for a hearing aid
  • Coverage to buy a hearing aid

During a routine hearing exam, your audiologist (ear doctor) assesses your hearing by playing a series of tones or sounds to identify the softest level you can hear. Your audiologist will also measure your ability to recognize familiar words and repeat them.

From there, they might find that you need a hearing aid, and they’ll decide whether you should be fitted for one in one or both of your ears. If you need a hearing aid, they’ll write you a prescription.

Using Your Routine Hearing Benefits

HearUSA provides your hearing benefits. You must use a HearUSA provider for your in-network benefits, which include:

  • $0 for one routine hearing exam with an in-network HearUSA audiologist (once a year)
  • $0 for one fitting and evaluation for a hearing aid with an in-network HearUSA provider (once a year)

You have coverage for up to one hearing aid per ear, per year. To be covered, your hearing aids have to come from an in-network HearUSA provider with a prescription from an audiologist.

Hearing aids bought without a prescription (also known as over-the-counter hearing aids) aren’t covered. But you can use your quarterly over-the-counter allowance toward buying these hearing aids at participating retailers.

Hearing aids bought from providers outside of the HearUSA network also aren’t covered.

If you need a hearing aid, you’ll pay a single copay for each prescription hearing aid. The cost is based on technology levels and is the same across plans:

  • Level 1 – Value Technology: $299 per ear. Best for people who lead a quiet lifestyle.
  • Level 2 – Advance Technology: $599 per ear. Good for fairly active people.
  • Level 3 – Premium Technology: $1,199 per ear. The best choice for more active, busy people.

Covered brands include:

  • Signia
  • Widex
  • Oticon
  • Rexton
  • Beltone

Call HearUSA at 1-855-825-4706 (TTY 711), weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., ET, to find in-network providers.

  • You can schedule an appointment with a HearUSA Center or HearUSA network audiologist by calling the provider directly.
  • As of January 1, 2024, you can visit HearUSA.com/members/Braven to search for HearUSA network providers.

Be sure to review the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) for your specific Braven Health plan for more details about your hearing benefit.
